FPI Ownership in NSE-Listed Companies Falls to 15-Year Low; Domestic Investors Gain Ground

Foreign portfolio investors’ (FPI) ownership in NSE-listed companies has declined to 16.9 percent, the lowest in 15 years, as of the end of September, the National Stock Exchange said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, domestic mutual funds’ ownership climbed to 10.9 percent, marking the ninth straight quarter of increase, supported by strong and consistent flows into Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs).

When it comes to individual investors, their direct market ownership remained steady, but when combined with their mutual fund holdings, their total contribution rises to 18.75 percent—the highest in 22 years, the NSE noted.

Promoter holdings stayed largely unchanged at 50.1 percent across all listed companies and 49.3 percent for Nifty500 firms.
