PhysicsWallah Raises ₹1,563 Crore from Anchor Investors Ahead of IPO
Edtech unicorn PhysicsWallah has mobilised ₹1,562.85 crore from anchor investors a day before the opening of its highly anticipated ₹3,480-crore initial public offering (IPO).
According to a circular uploaded on the BSE website, the company allotted 143.3 million shares at an anchor investor offer price of ₹109 per share.
The anchor book witnessed participation from 57 funds, including global investment giants such as Goldman Sachs, Fidelity, and Templeton.
Of the total allocation, 79.5 million shares were subscribed by 14 domestic mutual funds through 35 different schemes, highlighting strong institutional confidence in the edtech firm’s business fundamentals and growth prospects.
IPO Timeline and Market Context
The ₹3,480-crore PhysicsWallah IPO will open for public subscription on November 11 and close on November 13.
Market participants see the robust anchor response as a sign of high investor appetite for India’s digital education sector, especially given PhysicsWallah’s profitable operating model and deep penetration in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.
The offering will include a fresh issue and an offer for sale (OFS) component, allowing early investors and promoters partial exits while injecting new capital for technology expansion, offline center growth, and content diversification.
Investor Sentiment and Sector Outlook
Founded in 2020, PhysicsWallah has evolved from a YouTube-based learning platform into a diversified edtech ecosystem, spanning test preparation, online courses, offline coaching, and upskilling.
The strong anchor participation underscores renewed investor confidence in select edtech models that have demonstrated operational profitability despite the broader funding slowdown in the sector.
Analysts believe the IPO could reignite market optimism toward education technology firms, provided post-listing performance sustains momentum.
