Quant Mutual Fund has become the first asset management company in India to receive regulatory approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for launching a Specialised Investment Fund (SIF). The fund house is preparing to roll out the country’s first investment product under the SIF framework—‘qsif Equity Long-Short Fund’ by August 2025.

SIFs are a new category of investment vehicles introduced to cater to sophisticated investors with higher risk appetite and deep market knowledge. These funds offer more flexibility in their investment strategies, including the ability to take long and short positions, and make extensive use of derivative According to the fund house’s factsheet, Quant Mutual Fund will structure the SIF to target evolving market dynamics with enhanced risk mitigation tools. The SIF framework will enable active management strategies not typically available under traditional mutual fund structures.

Quant stated that, in addition to the equity long-short strategy, it also plans to introduce hybrid SIF strategies in the coming months. The fund house said it will focus on investor education to build awareness around the product’s risk-return characteristics and suitability.

The SIF launch comes at a time when market participants are seeking alternative strategies amid heightened global volatility and evolving macroeconomic conditions. Quant emphasized that the new fund will be designed to navigate both rising and falling markets, providing tools for active risk management.
